MONTHLY PLOUGHMAN’S LUNCH
History : In 2005, some of our elderly members requested a further midweek opportunity to meet together for a meal and a chat. Four of our church members met to discuss this and the outcome was that on the second Wednesday of the month, there would be a Ploughman’s Lunch and this would be held at the church.
In February 2006, the first Lunch was held when we expected 30 people and over 40 came. The cost of lunch was then was £2.50. It was only a matter of three months before the room in which we met was too small and for a while we used the church as an overflow. The numbers still increased and we finally decided to hold the event in the main hall.
What began as a small affair has become known in the local community and beyond for its ‘value for money’ with folk coming in from surrounding towns and villages.
The organisers and helpers of the event have changed over the years but they remain committed to the idea of a place for people to meet, chat and enjoy a meal together.
The Ploughman’s Lunch is more a feast than anything else. With a jacket potato, there is a choice of either cheese or ham and then your choice from the Salad Bar. Almost all of our sweets are home- made ... and such a choice! - as well as tea or coffee. And for just £5 so it remains good value for money.
Lunch is served on the second Wednesday of each month, with the exception of April, and is held on the third (the 15th) due to Easter holidays.

These pictures show the Ploughman's lunches, including some of the members of the team waiting to serve you. Also, some of the diners enjoying a good tuck in.
Above left, some of the (non-fattening) home-made puddings at the Ploughman's. Above right, produce is often for sale and there is usually a tombola with some terrific prizes.
