The two companies were formed in 1953 and revitalised in 1980, and numbers quickly rose.
In 1986 the first Queen’s Award and the first Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award of this new era were earned. The Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Sir Gordon Hobday was so impressed by the companies that he confirmed that the Lord Lieutenancy would present all future Queen’s Awards. His successors Sir Andrew Buchanan and Sir John Peace have continued this tradition.
This was a great honour to the companies and the Church as normally only county or regional celebrations would receive such recognition. In response the young people have excelled and earned Queen’s Awards every single year.
The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Standard is the pinnacle of a young persons Brigade career with an audience at St James’s Palace with the Duke of Edinburgh.
The Special Awards Day is also the occasion when Girls' Association achievement badges and Boys' Brigade section promotions are presented.
Many thanks for your support.
