Leprosy Mission Stamps and postcards
St John’s has sent over 100kg weight used postage stamps to the Leprosy Mission who sell the stamps on to international stamp dealers plus some postcards. That's more than half a hundredweight in 'old' money.
Please help. Snip or tear your stamps from correspondence and give them to Mary Aldous or Bob Dawson. Please don’t try to soak stamps off paper and don’t damage them as we cannot send those.
he Mission can also use children’s unwanted stamp collections, those stamps you found at the back of the drawer, adult accumulations, presentation packs, covers etc. rom all countries, not just Britain.
They are sorted by people at St Johns into various categories, and the charity sells them by weight to dealers according to the contents of sorted packs. Everyday British 'Machin' stamps are less value than commemorative ones, and older British and foreign stamps fetch more than either - but all have a value for the charity.
Also, any postcards (not old Christmas or Birthday cards), used or unused from anywhere in the world, from Mansfield to Mancunia and even the very exotic places like Skeggy, Blackpool and Wormwood Scrubs.
We can also accept coins, bank notes, tokens and even gold doubloons (well, worth asking in case there are ny retired pirates) that are:
FOOD BANK – Thank you for your continued donations to this project. Could we please make a request that you place in the box only items listed in the box.
Donations of fresh fruit and vegetables are not suitable for the food bank. The way the system works is that items we collect on a Sunday are taken to the food bank the following Friday but may not be used until the following week as the volunteers have already made up the bags for any given week before we arrive. This means that they cannot use items that are fresh. Nor can they give out items which are past their use by date – this food is then waste.
Postage Stamps
If you buy your stamps from Bob Dawson, for every pound that’s paid you will contribute 10p to Church funds.
